About Me

Who I am

Hi I'm Jennifer and this is my very first teacher blog! This is my second year as a special education teacher for MFISD (Marble Falls, TX) and also my second year teaching the 18+ Transition Program. I was alternatively certified two years ago, but received much of my training through the experience of being a LIFE skills aide in a middle school setting. It's been a wild and crazy journey, but I wouldn't have it any other way, and look forward to the road ahead; wherever it may lead me.

Give L.I.F.E A Chance

The L.I.F.E. program, through our special service department, is committed to preparation for a meaningful, successful and beneficial life by assisting the students in becoming as independent as possible in the areas of:
• Employment
• Adult living
• Life long learning
• Social recreation/
leisure.

How it works:
The 18+ program is for students previously in a life skills classroom at the high school level, who have graduated high school and still need additional real-world training.
The students will learn everyday living skills and home maintenance throughout the day. In addition to myself and my staff, community members will be utilized to teach them the skills necessary to become more independent.
The students will receive job coaching support and ongoing instruction from the program staff as well as their natural supports in the workplace (the employer/supervisor). This will ensure a solid foundation of skills and knowledge as well as forming and maintaining mutually beneficial work relationships. Job coaches will work with the students at the job sites until independence is achieved.
Our schedule is not guided by a standard school day schedule, but by the educational need of each adult student. Some students will only receive a three-hour instructional day, while others six or seven.
