Exciting times at Transition

This has become such a busy time of year for us. The Transition Training Facility is really taking shape and it looks as though we might be moving in around May 1st...how exciting is that!?
With that said...it's also a very busy time of the year because we have our annual candle sales fundraiser under way. If you are a candle connoisseur, you have probably purchased at least one product from Lux Fragrances. This wonderful company not only makes great candles, they also employ a few of the 18+ Transition students.
Our most popular is the 6 oz candle- "Risque" scent
The limited edition 11 oz. candle...created for our fundraiser in "Creme Brulee" scent

If you'd like to purchase a candle...or three...please e-mail me at jvirdell@mfisd.txed.net

Photos from this week

I wanted to share two photos from this week. I know at least one of my students checks this blog for photo postings, so here goes!
Belinda enjoying her morning at the Llano Valentine's Dance
Samuel wearing his Letterman jacket for the very first time!

How do you like the new look?!

I can't begin to tell you how thrilled I am with the new look of the blog. A very talented teacher from beautiful West Virginia designed this for me and I can't thank her enough. Thank you, Kristen!

Some times when I am moving about our community I get the chance to sit down and have very honest and intellectually stimulating conversations. It's one of the perks of the job. Today was another one of those wonderful days.
My hope and goal is to see this program doing more outreach to local businesses, agencies and organizations. One of those relationships is to the Boys and Girls Club of America. If you have not had the true privilege of meeting Brian Jones, Executive Director of the B & G Clubs of the Highland Lakes...you should stop in today and say hello. The facilities both in Marble Falls and Burnet provide wonderful opportunities to not only get children involved and invested into their own futures, but to also have their parents/guardians invested just as much.
My vision is for those same goals to be a part of this program...collective involvement in each adult students future from a variety of supports; classroom, community and home.

Facility progress update

This is what the house (aka Transition Training Facility) looks like currently. One of the students involved in this program has close ties to this project. His father's company is doing all of our rock work. You can see the love and care going into this project and we are so proud that it's one of our own, working on this facility.

Change is coming!

I have found a wonderful woman (and teacher) to help me "re-brand" this blog and I'm so anxious for you all to see what she's been working so hard to put together. I'll tell you it's going to be very chic and fun! Check back soon for the new look!

Where's Mrs. Virdell you say...

Learning new things at....

I'm so excited to be attending this year's Texas Transition Conference in Austin. So far I've had a chance to hear some really wonderful and inspiring speakers who have given me a plethora of wonderful ideas and new ways to assess my students. Money well spent!

It's that's time!

Transition student, Samuel, will be graduating this May and is so excited to be going through the rite of passage by picking out and paying for his graduation invitations, senior t-shirt, and of course the cap and gown. Congratulations Samuel!!
